I’ll Fly the Skyway ist ein Song aus der Disneyland Records-Langspielplatte The Story and Songs of the Orange Bird (1971). Er wurde von den Sherman Brothers komponiert, von Anita Bryant und den Mike Sammes Singers gesungen und der Text stammt ebenfalls von den Sherman Brothers. Im Hörspiel wird das Lied aus der Perspektive von Orange Bird gesungen, als dieser froher Dinge in den Süden fliegt.

Hintergrund und Auftritte in anderen Medien

Das Lied wurde unter dem Namen „My Way’s the Highway“ ursprünglich für den Kater Thomas O’Malley geschrieben, doch mit dem Casting von Phil Harris als sein Sprecher wurde auch der Komponist Terry Gilkyson wieder an Bord geholt, der vorher für Harris’ Rolle als Balu in „Das Dschungelbuch“ den Hit „Probier’s mal mit Gemütlichkeit“ schrieb. Das Ergebnis, „Thomas O’Malley“, wurde auch später im Film verwendet.

Als die Sherman-Brüder beauftragt wurden, Lieder für die Langspielplatte „The Story and Songs of the Orange Bird“ zu schreiben, verwendeten sie das schon komponierte und geschriebene Lied einfach neu. Alle anderen Lieder des Hörspiels sind neu komponiert worden.

Trivia

Die Sherman-Brüder änderten den Text für die Orange-Bird-Langspielplatte. O’Malley singt über die Orte, in denen er war und in denen er Freunde hat, während Orange Bird hofft, in fernen Orten neue Freunde zu gewinnen. Trotz der Unterschiede ähnelt sich der Text an manchen Stellen sehr:
