  • Bardon Art was an agency of illustrators and comic distribution founded by Catalan artist Jordi Macabich and British writer Barry Coker in 1957, with offices in Barcelona and London. Their way of working was similar to other agencies of that time, such as Creaciones Editoriales and Selecciones Ilustradas, as their goal was to provide and distribute assignments for the European magazine market to Spanish artists. This situation took an unexpected turn in 1969 when Barry Coker received a call from Jim Lawrence mentioning that he was looking for an artist for the newspaper comic strip "Friday Foster" he was developing for the American market. After a trial, Jordi Longaron was chosen, and the strip was published until 1974. As Barry Coker commented, «It was the first newspaper strip published in the United States made by a European artist. We didn't want to lose it, but we couldn't do anything to prevent it». Bardon Art continued working for the US market and closed in 2010. (herauskopiert von irgend einer Instagram-Seite)
  • In October 1969, artist Jordi Longaron and Barry Coker (the British partner of Bardon Art) travelled to New York to meet with the president of the Chicago Tribune-New York Daily News Syndicate. ⁣They were picked up at the airport by scriptwriter Jim Lawrence, and they took the opportunity to explore the city. Longaron wanted to visit the Harlem neighbourhood to take photographs that would serve as references for the "Friday Foster" comic strips he would have to start drawing upon his return to Barcelona. ⁣A policeman recommended that they visit the neighbourhood by taxi for security reasons. In hindsight, his comic panels departed from the raw realism of that era and evoked a dreamed America, the one from cinema and television, the one based on glamour and seduction, which fascinated Longaron, despite still harboring many social inequalities. ⁣As the artist commented: «I remember a comic strip featuring the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and I drew its facade and some interior images. The museum director decided to send us a thank-you letter».⁣ (noch mal was von einer Instagram-Seite zu Cokers Weggang nach New York.)
